NEWS; Anti-Tween Bands: Youth Gone Wild!
Post by www.tokiohotelrocks.com
Youthfulness has always been an important part of any pop or rock star’s appeal-which makes sense, since kids buy lots of records and drive trends. But being teenaged is especially all the rage nowadays, with the charts currently ruled with a kid-gloved fist by the under-18 set: Cyrus, Swift, various Brothers (Jonas, Naked), et al.
But it all comes across as pretty safe, pretty tame-like these are kids who’ve never broken a curfew, never done detention, never received less than an A- on a test, or ever had to be asked twice by Mom and Dad to take out the trash or do their homework. Come on, now-how many teenagers in America can really relate to that?
However, not all teenage (or tweenage, if that is indeed the proper term) musicians are going the Radio Disney route. Some of them are actually acting like true teens–that is, like snotty, hormone-riddled rebels–and creating loud, riotous juvie-hall rock ‘n’ roll that, ironically, is probably more influenced by their parents’ supercool record collections than by anything on Nickelodeon right now.
Yes, whether it’s girly-punk that echoes the feminist sentiments of the ’90s riot-grrrrl movement or shreddy retro-metal inspired by the likes of ’80s metal gods Metallica and Slayer, many of today’s adolescent rockers are coming up with alterna-teen fare that oddly sounds fresher and feistier than any recent recording by Miley, the Jonases, or any of the HSM castmates.
Here are those at the head of the anti-tween class…
Tokio Hotel
The most well-known band on this list, these creatively coiffed German rockers have released three albums, sold 5 million units in their homeland, and won a Best New Artist VMA in America. They’re almost too old to be included here, since they range from age 19 to 22–but they actually started way back in 2003, when they were far too young to be licensed to drive on the Autobahn. It’s hard to believe that TH have been together longer than many rock bands 10 years their senior…and those older bands surely must feel like underachieving losers when they take stock of what Tokio Hotel (and the other kiddie bands on this list, for that matter) have already accomplished in their young careers.

“and those older bands surely must feel like underachieving losers when they take stock of what Tokio Hotel have already accomplished in their young careers”
my point exactly xp
i am just sooooooo proud to hear somebody talk about them in a praiseful way
Good point!
exactly..
yes finaly !
ahaha thats exactly how i feel
Its awesome for a change other than hearing trash from other arsholes….
And its true, we have gone crazy, i NEED music to survive! especially Tokio Hotel, i’d go insane without them. And i mean the bad kind of insane.
Damn skippity! I don’t know what I’d do without them.
you got it !
I was thinking about this the other day:
All this stalker videoes: Why are there non of them on nightclubs, in bars etc…. (I am GLAD there is none). After all they must have friends and hang out with them as well. Or maybe… the crowd in the bars are not stalkers and the stalkers are not old enought to get in there LOL.
It would be rather sad if they never goes out with friends. But I guess they do!
Good point. I am also glad that they only stalk them at the Studio
same here
lol
” to young to get in there”
lamo
that is funny^^
speak the truth!! haha, this is really good. But seriously, they’re not THAT old. I mean, the jonas brothers aren’t 15 anymore either. But anyway, it seems they ARE the most popular band, considering how they are known ALL over the world. But it makes me kinda miss the times when not that many people knew about them. But w/e TH ftw!!
But TH are still not as well known in the States as the Jonas Bros. are. I still come across people who’ve never heard of them (!!). But as always gotta love the publicity, the more their name gets out there the better for them, and us, it will be.
SURE THE JONAS BROTHERS ARE WELL KNOWN OVER THE WORLD …MOSTRLY BY CHILDREN THE SAME WITH HANNAH MONTANA AKA MILEY CYRUS. BUT I GET THSI FELLING THAT IN 2009 TOKI HOTEL WILL BE EVEN MORE FAMOUS !
ITS SO NICE THAT THEY TALK ABOTU TOKIO HOTEL LIKE THAT
They do realize that tweens and under 12 year old are the majority of fan population for Hannah Banana….
yea thatz true but some of the fan base is teenagers 2 im not gonna lie i saw the hannah montana movie and it the movie theatre was packed with teenagers … but i totally get wat ur saying… disney stuff iz 4 little kids but at times they can get a little corny dont u think they can at least add a little more flavor … those young fans r gonna grow up 1 day ( im not being rude im just saying my opinion )
WOW. Fantastic article.
nice article i’m very proud of them i love those guys
its nice to hear praise and truth to them, sometimes its really hard to support but that doesnt effect how i love them. this is so refreshing i cant wait for the new record
Is this from a magazine article, or something? Well, I’m glad they’re getting the recognition they deserve because I can’t begin to explain how proud I am of them. They’ve come so far, and they have a lot farther to go. =)
any so called “band” featured on disney channel is a lame excuse for music…im am SOOO glad this magazine put this out there.because its true!tokio hotel is an amazing band im glad they are finally getting some recognization for NOT following the disney route…

STAY INCREDIBLE TOKIO HOTEL!
DONT GIVE INTO THE DISNEY BULL CRAP!
